About Greenery NYC

Greenery NYC is a botanic design company specializing in the integration of plant life into architecture and interior spaces. From thoughtfully designed plant installations to large-scale living walls and automated horticultural systems, we combine creativity, technology, and horticultural expertise to bring nature into the built environment.

We're a hands-on, fast-paced team that values curiosity, collaboration, problem-solving, and a willingness to roll up our sleeves.

About the role

We're looking for a motivated, detail-oriented part-time Interior Horticulturist to join our New York City team. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves plants, enjoys working with their hands, and is excited to develop new skills across a variety of horticultural projects.

While the primary responsibility of this role is maintaining interior plants and living installations at client sites throughout New York City, no two days will look exactly alike. You'll have opportunities to work with living walls, automated irrigation and lighting systems, plant installations, and other specialty projects.

We're especially interested in someone who is eager to learn, comfortable taking on new challenges, and excited to grow with the company. You don't need to know everything on day one, but you should be curious, resourceful, and ready to get involved.

What you'll do

Plant Care & Maintenance

  • Provide ongoing care for interior tropical plants at commercial client locations throughout New York City.
  • Assess plant health, determine watering needs, and identify and treat pest or disease issues.
  • Prune, clean, groom, and maintain plants to ensure installations consistently look their best.
  • Maintain accurate service notes, maintenance logs, and site photographs.

Living Walls & Technical Systems

  • Regularly maintain living walls and other specialty botanical installations, including working on ladders to access plants and equipment at elevated heights.
  • Learn to operate, inspect, and troubleshoot automated irrigation, lighting, and other horticultural systems.
  • Assist with diagnosing plant health and system-related issues and implementing solutions.
  • Develop technical knowledge and hands-on experience with specialized horticultural installations.

Installations & Special Projects

  • Assist with the delivery, planting, and installation of interior plants, planters, and living walls.
  • Support plant replacements, seasonal projects, and other installation work as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with team members across maintenance, installations, and special projects.
  • Be willing to jump in wherever needed to help the team succeed.

Communication & Professional Development

  • Communicate professionally with clients and team members while working in occupied commercial spaces.
  • Check work schedules and company communications daily.
  • Maintain organized, timely, and accurate documentation of completed work.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing skill development.
  • Take initiative, ask questions, and actively seek opportunities to expand horticultural and technical knowledge.

What we're looking for

  • A genuine interest in plants and a strong desire to learn and grow professionally.
  • A hands-on, proactive attitude and willingness to take on a wide variety of tasks.
  • Comfort working on ladders regularly and performing plant maintenance at elevated heights, following established safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
  • Dependability, a positive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good problem-solving skills and an interest in learning how mechanical and automated systems work.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including regularly lifting and carrying 30+ lbs.
  • Basic comfort using email, calendars, and digital documentation tools.

Preferred, but not required

  • At least one year of professional plant care experience, horticultural training, or a related degree.
  • Experience with tropical plants, living walls, irrigation systems, or plant installations.
  • Previous experience in a hands-on trade, landscaping, facilities maintenance, or another physically active role.

Why join Greenery NYC?

This is more than a traditional plant maintenance position. You'll have the opportunity to develop a diverse skill set, work on unique botanical installations, and gain experience with the technical systems that support them.

We're looking for someone who wants to be part of a team, take ownership of their work, and continue building their skills over time. If you're curious, hardworking, and excited by the idea of learning something new every day, we'd love to hear from you.
