Plant Details

String of Hearts (Ceropegia Woodii) is a flowering plant native to South Africa. Its plump heart shaped leaves range from deep to muted green with pink hued undersides, and the plant will sprout light pink flowers with dark purple centers even when kept indoors. Often grown in hanging baskets, the leaves sprout along tailing vines that hang straight down in a beadlike formation. Best placed on a windowsill or shelf, these plants will grow quickly and can reach upwards of 10ft in length.

This evergreen succulent does best in direct sunlight or bright indirect light. Drought tolerant, these plants are easy to care for and should be left to dry out between waterings.

Product Overview

  • Light Requirements

This is a high light plant. It will do best close to a south or west facing window, or directly against a north or east facing window.

Please note that obstructions can cause a considerable decrease in the available light. Windows facing other buildings or alleys, especially on the bottom floors, are particularly susceptible.

The surest way to see if your space receives the light required for a potted plant is to take a light meter reading. Please see our Lighting Guide for instructions.

  • Plant Care

    CARE LEVEL
    Moderate.

    LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
Bright light. This plant enjoys direct sunlight but is tolerant of bright indirect light. It does not fare well in low light.

    WATER REQUIREMENTS
Be sure to water your plant upon delivery. String of Heart plants prefer fairly dry soil. A thorough watering when the top 2"-3" of the soil are dry is ideal, but be sure to give your plant a dry out period between watering. It should never be left in standing water as String of Hearts are sensitive to overwatering and susceptible to root rot. When in doubt, err on the side of under watering.

    HUMIDITY PREFERENCE
Low humidity. This plant is tolerant of dry conditions, but be sure to keep it away from hot or cold air drafts.
