Plant Details

Sansevieria is a genus of about 70 species of flowering plants native to Africa, Madagascar and southern Asia. Within this genus species vary greatly, ranging from desert succulents to thinner leafed tropical plants. Sansevieria trifasciata, commonly referred to as the snake plant or mother-in-law's tongue, has been found to remove toxins such as formaldehyde, xylene and toluene from the air via a process called Crassulacean acid metabolism.

Sansevieria thrives on neglect, having earned its nickname as the "unkillable" plant. However it's sensitive to overwatering, which can cause this plant to rot.

    • Manhattan
    • Brooklyn
    • Queens

Greenery NYC offers next day delivery for orders placed before 12pm Monday through Friday. We do not deliver on Sundays, so orders placed Saturday will go out the following Monday. In case of inclement weather, we will automatically reschedule deliveries for the next day we deem safe for the health of the plant, and will send out a notification email with the updated schedule.

Someone must be available to receive the delivery. If no one will be there to receive the delivery, you may give us permission to leave the plant outside the delivery address in the checkout notes. However we cannot acquiesce this request during the winter or in severe weather. If no one is there to receive the delivery and we are unable to leave it behind, a re-delivery fee will be incurred. Cancelled orders will incur a 20% restocking fee once they have been prepared for delivery.

  • Light Requirements

This plant is considered Low Light, and can survive in areas most other plants would not be able to. However, low light does not mean NO light. Make sure the location you're putting this plant in has either a window or receives at least 8 hours a day of bright fluorescent light. Like all plants, Low Light Plants require light to photosynthesize so for best results place this plant in bright, indirect light.

The surest way to see if your space receives the light required for an indoor plant is to take a light meter reading. Please see our Lighting Guide for instructions.

  • Plant Care

    CARE LEVEL
    Easy.

    LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
Prefers bright light, but is extremely adaptable to low light conditions.

    WATER REQUIREMENTS
Be sure to water your plant upon delivery. Sansevieria like dry soil and will rot when too much moisture is present. If soil is dry and beginning to pull away from the planter walls and the Sansevieria leaves are beginning to wrinkle, it is time to water.

    HUMIDITY PREFERENCE
Low humidity. Be careful applying too much moisture as the stalks can rot.

  • Return Policy

All floor plants have a 24 hour return window. We only send out plants that are representative of the photography on the site, and are confident you will be satisfied with your purchase. However, if your plant arrives damaged or does not meet your expectations contact us at care@greenerynyc.com within 24 hours to initiate a replacement or refund. Please include your order number.
