Terrarium Care

Light Requirements: Your terrarium will be happiest in bright, indirect light. Don’t put directly in the sun, but make sure it gets at least 3 hours of indirect light a day.

Water Requirements: This is a terrarium that likes to stay moist. For happy plants, mist every three days. Once a week pour three shot glasses of water near the base of the plants.

Feeding Requirements: Woodland Plants like food. Once every six weeks dilute one tablespoon liquid seaweed or other organic fertilizer with your regular three shot glasses of water.

Pruning Requirements: Pruning your plants will help them grow full and tall. Don’t be afraid to trim back any leaves that make your terrarium look overgrown.

Love Requirements: The more you talk to your plants, the healthier they will be. Not only do they love to hear how pretty they are, but your breath gives them a refreshing dose of CO2. Be sure to say something nice to them at least twice a week!

Water Requirements: Air plants and aerium terrariums prefer humid environments. For happy plants, mist thoroughly, to the point of soaking, every 5 days.

Feeding Requirements: To encourage your air plants to bloom, every six weeks dilute one teaspoon of liquid seaweed fertilizer in your regular misting water and spray thoroughly.

Pruning Requirements: It’s normal for your plants to get brown or dried leaves every now and again. Just be sure to remove dead matter when you see it as leaving it in the terrarium can encourage rot. After your air plant flower is spent, simply clip it off with small scissors.

Love Requirements: Air plants can’t thrive on water and air alone, they need attention too! Talking to your plants gives them a much appreciated dose of CO2 and will help encourage growth and blooms. Be sure to say something nice to your terrariums at least once a week!

Light Requirements: Your terrarium will be happiest in bright, indirect light. Don’t put it directly in the sun.

Water Requirements: This is a terrarium that likes to stay moist. For happy plants, mist every three days. Once every ten days pour two shot glasses of water near the base of the plants.

Pruning Requirements: Your orchid will flower for quite a while, but when the last flower fades, examine the spike, looking for small fleshy bumps or nodes. From the base of the spike count 3 nodes. Cut the spike one inch above the third node to encourage more flowers.

Light requirements: Carnivorous plants thrive in bright light. Be sure to put your carnivorous terrarium in a nice sunny spot that gets at least 5 to 6 hours of sun a day.

Water Requirements: These terrariums like to stay moist and prefer filtered or bottled water. Some of the minerals in regular tap water (like fluoride) can contribute to browning or dying leaves. Be sure to water your terrarium deeply at least once a week with 3 – 5 shot glasses of water.

Feeding requirements: Carnivorous plants do not like to be fertilized, they get all the nutrients they need from the bugs they catch! Though it can be tempting to feed your plants, never put dead bugs into the traps.

Pruning requirements: Be sure to remove any dried plant material. It is normal for fly traps and pitchers to turn black and dry after eating. It is not a sign of a problem–as one trap goes black, another will grow.

Light requirements: Succulents are desert plants and need lots of sun to thrive. Be sure your terrarium is placed in a sunny spot that gets at least 6 hours of bright natural light per day.

Water requirements: Succulents don’t need much water to survive, but if you want them looking their best, we recommend watering every 10 to 12 days with 2 or 3 shot glasses worth of water. Try to water the plant near their roots and not on the leaves.

Feeding requirements: Your succulent terrarium does not require additional fertilizers or plant food.

Pruning requirements: Remove all dry or dead plant material from the terrarium regularly. If your succulent grows too tall, or the shape is displeasing to you, just use clean sharp scissors to cut it back down to the size you like.

Greenery NYC aerium terrariums are made entirely of dried and preserved materials and need no water at all. To keep their colors bright don’t put them directly in the sun and be sure to dust the glass regularly to keep it looking shiny and new.
