Plant Details

The dracaena is a genus of about 40 species of trees and succulent shrubs native to Madagascar and tropical Africa. The word “dracaena” was derived from the romanized form of the Ancient Greek word drakaina, translating to “female dragon”. Commonly referred to as the corn plant, the bright red gum-like resin produced by the stem of the Dracaena is called “Dragon’s Blood” and has been used as varnish, medicine, incense, and dye since ancient times by many different cultures.

Although the dracaena can adapt to low light, medium to indirect bright light in a room of average temperature (65-75°F) are ideal conditions for this plant to flourish. The dracaena’s soil should be slightly moist at all times, regardless of season.
